Welp. It’s my birthday. 🎂
Welcome to this highly abridged issue of Drunk Business Advice.
Because if there’s anything I’ve learned by mid-life (where I now officially reside), it’s that the best way to celebrate a birthday is with a little extra rest.
🍻 THE DRUNK BUSINESS ADVICE
👉 Stop trying to be a good fit, and be a misfit instead. It’s way more fun.
And now — the story behind why this advice matters. 👇
I’m a misfit
I’ve recently teamed up with an old colleague on a new business. We’ve worked together on various projects for over a decade, and he’s one of my best friends. So I was a little irritated when he shot me this message on Monday:
“Do you have an up-to-date resume you can share?”
Um. No. I haven’t written a resume in years. I’ve rarely had a “job” — my career is packed with overlapping projects, multiple businesses, and some pretty weird creative pursuits. That shit doesn’t line up neatly on an 8 ½ x 11.
So no… I don’t have a resume. Why TF would you even ask for one? You know me better than almost anyone.
He explained that an exciting prospective client was asking for it. And that it would really help him out if I could pull something together. So I relented, and spent an entire day attempting to assemble my wild career on a single page in a way that won’t send this client running for the whisky.
And you know what? It was actually an enjoyable exercise. 10/10. Highly recommend.
Because this process forced me to revisit chapters of my career that I had long shelved, and view them through the lens of the 2026-version of Kristin. I realized that I spent way too long trying to blend in… trying to follow the same steps in the same order as everyone else, while downplaying my differences.
What a shitty way to live.
Today’s Kristin embraces the the misfit. After all, with parents like these, what could I expect?

You read that correctly. My mom’s t-shirt says “sexy bitch”.
So on my birthday, I’d like to thank the original misfits, Rick and Katy. My weirdo parents. It’s no secret where I got my squiggly career, outlier opinions, and creative mojo.
I didn’t always appreciate it, but I certainly do now.
And to all of you:
Your support over the last 121 issues of Drunk Business Advice has made me feel seen. And I see you, you beautiful misfit. ♥
Cheers! 🍻
